Warlock: Triumph and Agony (reissue)

1987's Triumph and Agony proved to be the big breakthrough for Germany's Warlock, but it also was their swan song, as the band broke up after the tour for the album, which paved the way for Doro's solo career. Their fourth and final album, Triumph and Agony contained their enduring metal anthem "All We Are", as well as a host of other strong tunes, making it the album that defined their short career.

"All We Are" sets the stage, a catchy, fist pumping anthem that struck a chord with metal fans of all ages and still resonates with audiences today. "Three Minute Warning" is a blistering rocker, and "I Rule the Ruins" contains some crunchy riffs, tasty lead breaks, and Doro's powerful vocal attack. There's a commercial edge that works very well on many of these tracks, especially on "Kiss of Death", "Make Time for Love", and the engaging ballad "Für Immer", but it's the searing rockers "East Meets West", "Touch of Evil", and the booming "Metal Tango" that showcase Warlock the best, as they feature those catchy guitar riffs and Doro's soaring vocals.

This 2011 reissue from Metal Mind Productions is limited to 2000 copies, and features the full booklet with photos & lyrics, plus an essay on the band, all housed in a charming digipack. It looks and sounds great, so if you are looking to upgrade or pick up Triumph and Agony for the first time, now's the time to do so. Throw in some cool bonus tracks, which include a blistering "Under the Gun", and you have a must have purchase for Doro fans.
