True As Steel is the third release from German melodic metal band Warlock, originally released in 1986 and now being reissued by Metal Mind Productions. Though still fairly heavy like their previous release Hellbound, True As Steel has a much more commercial appeal, and features more than a few catchy metal anthems.
The two openers, "Mr. Gold" and "Fight For Rock" are textbook examples of catchy, mid 80's metal anthems. Chock full of crunchy guitar riffs and the powerful vocals of Doro Pesch, these two tracks get this album started off on the right foot. The moody "Love in the Danger Zone" shows Doro's range tackling a more atmospheric number, while "Speed of Sound" lets her wail like a banshee on a more traditional power/speed metal number. Other highlights include the riff snarling "Vorwärts, All Right!", the super catchy title track, the fun metal piece (though somewhat dated sounding) "Igloo on the Moon (Reckless)", and the solid bonus cuts "You Hurt My Soul", "Turn It On", and "Evil".
It's a shame that Metal Mind didn't remaster this one, as True As Steel still has that 'mid 80's muddy sound' that was so common with metal recordings from that era. Still, this is a solid album that has gotten a welcome reissue here, so take advantage now as there are only 2000 copies available.
