Deathbound: Non Compos Mentis

Finnish trio Deathbound finally return after three years, with their fourth album Non Compus Mentis, which basically picks up where their deathcore - almost black metal roar left off with from 2007's We Deserve Much Worse. Their brutal attack and violent execution still make Deathbound a mighty force to be reckoned with and when they really pull out all the stops as they do on the cacophonous "The Seas Are Boiling", the result is the same as receiving a bloody punch to the face.

There is though no lack of subtlety in Deathbound's planned assault, listen to the double tracked vocals and tempo changes on "Strain", which mark this ultra-power trio as a band capable of ripping your face off, but rest assured that they'll do it with style and grace! That said, don't expect any let up in the rush of adrenalin that almost overcomes you during the fourteen songs on Non Compos Mentis, but it is all done without any slip in focus as the band romp through the bone crushing crunch of "The Process Of Destruction", "Free Shackles For All", or the stinging title track.

Every department on this album pulls its weight with uncompromising riffs being balanced by intricate guitar breaks, aggressive vocals that never sound clichéd and fantastic percussive work. Deathbound are not a band who confuse simple brutality with lasting impact, instead proving that they can deliver both with equally lethal force and pin-point accuracy.
