Foobar The Band: Grand Theft Audio EP

A quick visit to the web site for Foobar The Band will see this five piece stoner, heavy blues outfit from Gothenburg Sweden, hail themselves as a potential new favourite band for anyone who loves Clutch, Danko Jones and RATM and really who am I to argue?? This debut EP, that is available as a free download from the band's site, sets the Foobar The Band stall out with five songs that are absolutely bursting with grooving, grinding riffs, shout along choruses and jabbingly heavy rhythms.

Are they reinventing the stoner rock wheel?? Not a chance, but that doesn't stop these songs steamrollering over you with a power and passion that many established bands in this field would do well to emulate. All five songs stand out as fantastic examples of intricate and clever, but joyously dangerous slabs of molten, groove infested metal. Opener "Lost In Translation" comes on like Kyuss jamming with Clutch, with the riff laying down a huge groove that just gets more and more infectious as it goes on while the excellent vocals, both lead and backing add an extra little touch of class. "Get Old" brings even more melodic mayhem with a beat that writhes and wriggles, before the bass heavy "Come On So Long" oozes past with an easy drawl. The Clutch vibe is maybe a little too strong on "In Blood" however "Black Sunday" adds just the right amount of Sabbath gloom to a bright groove to ensure that Foobar The Band's debut goes out with a bang.

Grand Theft Audio is a mighty tasty statement of intent; let's hope we don't have to wait too long for a full album!
