Harmful: Sanguine

A sexy cover, a high yield of decent riffs and pretty good playing do not a great album make and this twelve-track release from Harmful serves as a perfect reminder of that. Although the trio rock with intensity through pieces such as "Overfed" (easily the most memorable and most fully-realized tune here) and "I Remember You," there's not much at present that distinguishes these guys from an ever-growing herd of commercial metal acts.

There are glimpses of something great to come (evidenced on the two aforementioned tracks and "Open End," for which the band has filmed a video which is included as a bonus to the disc) but the distance between then and now still seems far off. Surprisingly safe.
