This latest, self-titled release from the band that calls itself Fireball Ministry, shows a group that really is in love with vintage 70's hard rock sounds. That's right, influences such as Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Grand Funk Railroad, and Bad Company permeate each and every groove on this CD, and while for some this 'retro' approach might be a tad cliche ridden in this day and age, there's plenty of good music to be enjoyed here.
The mixing of heavy Sabbath styled riffs with melodic vocals and catchy tunes really works well throughout this release, as songs such as "Fallen Believers", "Thought It Out", and "Followed By a Fall" really sound like a midnight jam between all those bands I mentioned above. These songs groove, they rock, and they roll. Nothing groundbreaking mind you, but solid, enjoyable hard rock that pays homage to the greats of the 1970's. There's even an AC/DC-ish swagger to tracks "Butcher, Faker, Policy Maker" and "Kick Back", though by the time each chorus sets in, you'll instantly think Skynyrd or Bad Company.
There's a lot to like here, as Fireball Ministry seem to be on the same wavelength as Black Label Society at times, though not nearly as metallic as Wylde & Co..It's a CD that I can clearly recommend to anyone who loves classic hard rock sounds.
