Fetching songs that sound wonderful, that's what this inspiring Spanish symphonic power metal band always seem to record. Dark Moor are a favorite of mine for some time now, even with personnel changes the band never fails as I still get vast enjoyment from all their albums.
Once again Dark Moor has released something special here, and vocalist Alfred Romeo is still very much the man for the job, as he sounds wonderful on Ancestral Romance. Alfred also throws in a surprise, performing their song "Canción Del Pirata" in Spanish, speaking of which Ancestral Romance's theme is based on Spanish culture and history plus the lyrics were written by Francisco José García, a Spanish poet.
"Just Rock" is an unexpected and odd one out in the context of their other tunes, yes it's a tad corny but still a likeable song that deserves to be given a chance. Ancestral Romance features many symphonic metal jewels, and there's a nice welcome surprise with "Ritual Fire Dice", which is a highly entertaining instrumental. Countless albums seem to drop off in quality towards the end but not Ancestral Romance thanks to the very addictive "Ah! Wretched Me". This heavy pace changing tune is also my favorite, as well as the slower closing number "A Music In My Soul", which hooks you with a fantastic powerful chorus, both ensuring that Ancestral Romance doesn't fall short, so Dark Moor have done it again.
