After six years, Zeelion is back, in their sophomore release for Lion records. (AOR Heaven reissued their Japanese debut in 1998). Zeelion's sound is a hybrid of Royal Hunt and Yngwie Malmsteen, which like this band, owes a huge debt to Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. Weaknesses on this record include the limited range of the singer, and the keyboardist is not always quite up to par, but on the whole, this album is a pleasing mix of neo-classical metal. "Shadows" had a nice Yngwie touch to it. "Kingdom of Dreams" is probably the standout track of the album, featuring a dueling guitar/keyboard section. "Stars of Avalon" was Malmsteen-styled variant of Rainbow's "Gates of Babylon." The last track, "Wind of Time" is a ballad featuring a Blackmore-styled bluesy solo. This may not be the most original album of its type, but they did a decent job of it and I enjoyed it.
