Sweden's bluesy hard rockers Graveyard return with their seventh full-length release, and first in three years, titled Fever, and it's a fun return to form for this now-veteran band. The line-up is:
Joakim Nilsson - guitar, vocals
Truls Mörck -bass, vocals
Oskar Bergenheim - drums
"Back From The Grave" opens with lots of '70s grooves, nasty licks, and some of Joakim's best vocals in ages.
It's followed by "Tongue Tied"a fast and furious rocker, with plenty of wah-wah guitar licks, and it has a punk rock vibe in spots, but then the doomy metal kicks in. Really good song!
Up next is "A Better Cut (Note To Self)" more of a bluesy and groovy heavy rock track, with a big 70s feel...one of my favorites here. Catchy chorus too!
That brings us to "Year Of The Horse", which mixes punk with '70s blues rock, again a catchy chorus and loads of crashing drums and heavy riffs, killer vocals once again. Another gem here!
That is followed by "A Means To An End" which is pounding hard rock, complete with more massive grooves.
"Time To Tell" features throbbing bass to open the song...this one reminds me of a heavier The Doors!
On the back end of the album we get "Don't Shoot!"...strangely enough, this reminds me of heavy Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. Fun song!
Then, we are on to "Room Tempered," a blazing and furious bluesy hard rock romp. Big bass, drums, tasty lead guitar and riffs, and snarling vocals. A highlight!
The closer is "Dead Note," a return to classic psychedelic and doom-laden Graveyard. I love the vocals and layers of swishy guitars.
Easily Graveyard's best album in years, Fever is a fun, rocking retro set of songs that will remind everyone why we fell in love with this band in the first place.
