Freedom Hawk: Take All You Can

Here is another favourite of mine. The band is Freedom Hawk, hailing from Virginia Beach and have been unleashing their heaviness on the masses since their formation in 2003. Their debut titled Sunlight in 2008 was a great record and the band has not looked back since. Their last effort was their 2022 offeringTake All You Can, and the band had quite possibly made their best record yet.

The riffs are heavy and catchy, the drumming is powerful and tight, and the lead vocals sound like Ozzy in his prime. I don’t know about you but that sounds like a recipe for success and I can assure all fans of ‘70s influenced heavy rock and metal really do need to listen to this smoldering piece of plastic.

The energy is palpable on the album opening “Age Of The Idiot, a high octane ripper with fantastic drumming, a barrage of heavy riffing, and great vocals from TR Morton, holding Ozzy close to his heart. The title track features a fantastic guitar chug and more of those catchy lead vocals. Blistering fretwork can be heard throughout the disc. With “We All Need Rock N’ Roll the band channels a little Lynyrd Skynyrd and Allman Brothers Band with its southern rock and bluesy charm. The guitar tone is near perfect here. “Seize The Day opens with a pretty bass line and a nice groove developing with a softer edge before the soundscape is drenched with jackhammer like riffs and pounding drums. It’s heavy stuff but also super catchy with another great vocal from Morton. Another ripper has to be “Never To Return with more blistering fretwork and an overall ‘70s heavy rock charm.

Another excellent addition to the Freedom Hawk canon, Take All You Can will be worthy for anyone into heavy rock and metal. Absolutely recommended!

A Ripple Music release.
