Krokofant: 7

Krokofant blew me away with their 2025 Release 6, the sheer intensity of the music really came through which is not always easy to accomplish in the studio. I had every intention of exploring their back catalogue, but failed to do so. And now here we are with the group’s latest release, aptly titled 7 hits the streets November 27th, 2026.

Original drummer Axel Skalstad sadly passed away in 2025, but the band made the decision to continue, and fans will be glad to hear they haven’t lost a step. Retaining a heavy 70’s King Crimson influence, powerful driving instrumental compositions are coupled with savage guitar and saxophone soloing, a beautiful cacophonous sonic experience. Think of the end of “Starless or “Pictures in a City as reference. Guitarist Tom Hasslan blazes over the outro for “Devil Ship, his shining moment on the album. “Backwards is one that misleads you with its laid-back beginning, but morphs into a muscular workout. “Metamorphosis explodes out of the speakers with guitar fire, you feel like the band is going off the rails (which they may be) at any minute. The guitar histrionics continue on “Urge (which also has cool keyboards) and “In The Phase. The soloing feels improvised to me, and the rhythm section is relentless, it works with music this raw and powerful. A tip of the hat must be given as “7 should make fans of their previous work incredibly happy.
