Pure Reason Revolution: Terrifying Angels

Terrifying Angels is the 7th studio album fromm UK "Spin Like Fire" opens the album, a fairly heavy and rocking song, with some nice riffing; Jon and Annike share lead vocals on this track. Good start! Up next is "Black-Arrow Acrobats" more atmospheric and full of electronics, but there are still plenty of heavy riffs, and strong vocals, with a catchy chorus sung by both Annike and Jon...lots of groove here. Another solid song. It's followed by "Haywire Heart" which starts out fast and furious like a raging prog-metal track, then we get some atmospherics and then back to blistering metal.

"Terrifying Angels" -big epic, part atmospheric prog, part groove-laden metal, has some trippy, ambient elements...not bad. Next Up is "Rumination Ruin", more groovy, hard-hitting prog -metal, and I really like the vocal blending here. "Below Radiance" is basically a throwaway track for me, some keys, drums, and piano with a bit of vocals toward the end. "Hold Your Wrath" is the big prog metal epic; it goes back and forth between lush prog and groovy, bottom-end-heavy prog metal. Might be a tad too long for some, as some sections drag, but it's nicely done overall.

Terrifying AngelsDoesn't reinvent anything, but it's expertly recorded and produced; vocals are the highlight. Don't expect lots of standout musicianship or soloing...it's not that kind of album. But hooks and melodies are everywhere...think Anathema or bands like that. Or even The Pineapple Thief, Steven Wilson, and Pink Floyd.
