Here's the brand-new, 2nd release from InsideOut Music prog- metal supergroup Temic, featuring:
Fredrik Klemp (Maraton, 22) - Vocals
Eric Gillette (The Neal Morse Band, Mike Portnoy's Shattered Fortress) - Guitars, Backing Vocals
Diego Tejeida (Devin Townsend, Mike Portnoy's Shattered Fortress, ex-Haken) - Keyboards, Sound Design
Simen Sandnes (Shining, Arkentype) - Drums
Miguel Pereira (Withem, Big City) - Bass
Opening track is the quick,
"Asunder" 01:35 which is nothing more than an atmospheric instrumental.
It is followed by "Ashes", a heavy, symphonic blast of prog/power metal...very much like Evergrey, emotional and potent, chugging riffs, plenty of keys, excellent lead and backing vocals. Screaming lead guitar & keyboard solo trade-off! One of my favorites here-quite catchy too!
The hits keep on coming with "Beyond the Voice" which is melodic and atmospheric, but nice and heavy in spots too, with a blazing guitar solo late in the song.
"Ceased To Be" is highly emotional and powerful prog-metal (Leprous, Haken, Evergrey...)-another highlight; vocals are so well done, with plenty of ripping guitars.
"Broken"is a mellow atmospheric track, not much happening, and doesn't do much for me...
"Casting Stone" however, is a cool epic piece, with lots of dynamics, and the drums are killer, more of those soaring emotional vocals, again the Evergrey comparisons pop up, wild guitar and keys unison lines. Cool solos too...another gem here!
"See Myself "is a heavy prog metal instrumental track with downtuned riffing and crushing drums...intense and some nice complex parts that remind of Dream Theater and Haken.
"Parting the Waves Inside"is another atmospheric prog track, great keys and guitars, very melodic and nice atmosphere with some heavy sections.
Next up is "Night of Veils" brief piano, vocal and guitar song....well done, with tasty leads from Eric
To close out the album, we get "Alone" a very emotional and mellow song-Leprous fans will love this one!
Lastly,
"As Long As We Last "is kind of like Alone, part 2 but a bit heavier....nice prog metal elements here, and again the vocals are really good
For the most part Ceiba is pretty strong and enjoyable. A few of the mellower tracks don't speak to me as much as the others, but there's way more good here overall. Recommended.
