Haken: In A Fever Dream EP

Here we have some new music from UK prog-metal darlings Haken, who have seen some upheaval in their line-up of late, which has some longtime fans worrying if this will effect the music going forward. The remaining members as of today are:
Line-Up:
Ross Jennings - Vocals
Richard Henshall - Guitars
Raymond Hearne - Drums
Pete Jones - Keyboards

"In a Fever Dream" opens the new EP , perhaps a little more atmospheric than what we are used to from Haken, though it gets quite heavy around the 4-minute mark and even includes some harsh, extreme vocals. Otherwise, Ross delivers smooth melodic vocals throughout, with lots of keyboards and electronics. Good song! Next up, "Delirium" is a very modern prog-metal-sounding track, which falls in line with lot of other bands on the roster. Sounds a little commercial for Haken, but still a catchy, memorable song, and pretty heavy and proggy. This is followed by "Eclipsed By You" , a bland, throwaway track for me.

On the back end of the EP we get "Bleeding Sky" more atmosphere and djenty guitar riffs, but it takes too long to get going, and then it's over... The last song is "Lotus" the closing epic, nice piano and loads more atmosphere, but again, it fails to really kick in as we expect from this band.

Overall 3 out of 5. Not terrible, but a little lackluster for me based on how great this band have been up to this point.

1) In a Fever Dream
2) Delirium
3)Eclipsed By You
4) Bleeding Sky
5) Lotus
