With half of the 10 songs on the first album from Rabbit in almost a half-century featuring “rock” in their titles, it’s pretty obvious that Defenders of Rock will, uh, rock. Australia’s Rabbit is fronted by Dave Evans, a founding member of and the first lead singer for AC/DC, and he's joined by original Rabbit members Mark Tinson on guitars and Jim Porteus on bass. This 34-minute record grooves in the vein of AC/DC, Rose Tattoo (Scott Johnston of that band guest-drums on “Let’s Get Loud”) and early Accept.
Rabbit does, indeed, defend rock on Defenders of Rock, playing almost as if the past 50 years in music never happened. You’ve got heavy riffs, loud drums and louder hooks, swaggering guitar solos and meathead lyrics. As the title of track seven declares: “Rock Ain’t Dead.”
