Bobbie Dazzle: Star Power

The press release for Star Power suggests that the album ‘is an unashamed, glorious slab of new millennial glam rock, and given the perilous state of the world right now, doesn’t everyone need a bit of escapism in their lives?’ The Braydog can wholeheartedly concur with all the above as it would be fair to say that Bobbie Dazzle (Siân Greenaway) has returned from a trying time including debilitating illness with another winner which can easily stand alongside the glorious debut album Fandabidozi for dishing out the uplifting 70s style funzies.

As with the first album if you like Sweet, Bowie (and weirdly, I don’t), Queen or even Cats in Space there is much to enjoy on Star Power. The pre-release singles are fantastic especially "Wonder" which initially I didn’t enjoy but it’s a real grower and, this isn’t to damn with faint praise, if there is a better drum sound in 2026 I want to hear it - it’s very reminiscent of Bev Bevan at his peak.

You want guests? Star Power has got ’em. Lita Ford and Pendulum’s Gareth McGrillen turn up but the real start is Siân Greenaway herself. Apparently, she’s suffered online criticism for her use of flute on her records. You know what? She doesn’t give a flying fuck and nor should she because she has a knack of writing and developing hooks which stay in the brain for a long time - The Who-ish "Jack Rabbit" being a case in point.

Like Fandabidozi, Star Power is much, much more than the sum of its influences to which we could add the mighty Angel. It’s an album full of balls, great tunes, great playing and great fun. There is so much room for escapism in the world right now and Bobbie Dazzle provides it but, as she says, ‘with teeth’. Seek it out immediately.
