Rakita, Anna: Only Love

Guitar and violin paired together is the music from heaven to my ears. Russian violinist Anna Rakita has teamed with incredible rhythm section of Gergo Borlai (Drums) and Anton Davidyants (bass), this formidable duo power these songs behind Anna’s incredible violin. You don’t need to delve any further than “First Song� (aptly titled) to know Rakita has the goods. A skillful player paired with the amazing compositions of Anna Vagifovna Zeinalova make this a must own. The first and only time I had heard of Anna Rakita was through guitarist Evgeny Ponozhiv’s 2024 release “Stream�. Rakita was first violin and composed the string quartet arrangements for the album.

Pairing Rakita’s violin with some amazing guitarists elevates this incredible music to the next level. Nguyen Le and Rakita trade solos during “River�, a gorgeous showcase for both players. Soaring violin accompanied by Le’s crisp clean guitar tone displays both beauty and bite. Marious Pop appears on four tracks, but he and Rakita go for absolute broke during “Phoenix�. Mike Gotthard sits in for “Wings� and has great trade-offs with Rakita. But, for my money, the pairing of Guthrie Govan with Rakita on “Only Love, Parts 1&2� is the icing on the cake, it leaves me wanting to hear more from these two.

This is the complete package: great songs, stellar performances, melodic, memorable, and loaded with energy. If you love violin as much as I do, this is a winner
