Flitcraft is the musical project put forth by Australin musician Phillip T. King. He was previously in the bands Galaxy and Butterfly, both of which I have not heard. The first album is titled Our Long Journey to the Middle and was released in 2022. King is credited with vocals, guitars, bass and special effects and has help on drums and percussion from Jack Phillips.
For me this music mostly recalls Iron Maiden and very early Rush. King can hit the high notes quite well and his guitar chops are all over this record. King certainly wears his influences well, his love of ‘70s metal and hard rock shine through on these eight tracks beginning with the heavy metal burner “Stranger Street” where classic style metal guitar riffs link together heavy and lighter moods, complemented with King’s catchy vocals. The second track “Memory” starts heavy from the very first note hinting at early Rush and Maiden and the chugging riffs are indeed excellent. The music slows down making room for some lovely introspective guitar work from King. “Blue Flower” features a short atmospheric intro and scorching guitar while “Bed of Spiders” is one of the catchiest tracks on the disc.
Flitcraft has been a great new find and will be mandatory for anyone still searching for those classic rock/metal sounds. Recommended!
