Green, Jeremy: In Motion

Canadian guitarist Jeremy Green returns with In Motion, another ripping set of instrumental, guitardriven fusion. Guitar lovers get exactly what they want here: a wide palette of sounds, smart arrangements, and consistently killer playing. As with his debut “Standing Eight�, Green surrounds himself with elite musicians, and everyone gets room to shine. Take notice of drummer Keith Carlock (Toto, Wayne Krantz) featured on all eight tracks, his playing stands out, heavy when needed, tight and grooving always.

The title track opens the album, a good rocking instrumental with horns featuring Snarky Puppy guitarist Mark Lettieri and bassist Will Lee. “He’s Grinding� features a great riff that runs through the track, it might be the heaviest song on the album. A funky flavor runs through “The 55� which features the saxophone upfront and the unmistakable guitar tone that can only be Mike Stern. Jeremy takes the second solo (I believe) on this track, and it turns the heat up nicely. The single coil tone chording and the gritty guitar lines make a great combo during “And Ah What�. That stinging tone hits even harder for the first solo flight as the bass and drums thump underneath. The funk returns for “Queen West�, and the soloing (Jarad James Nichols) is on fire, they could go on for days for all I care. Oz Noy and Jimmy Haslip join the festivities for “Tee Shot�, the horns add a good punch, the groove will have your head bopping.

The best test for a new album is how long it stays in regular rotation. With all the music available, it’s easy to listen and move on, well… In Motion is still in my player!
