Port Noir: The Dark We Keep

With The Dark We Keep, Port Noir returns heavier, darker, and more emotionally focused than before. This is an album that demands a dedicated listen, not because it is complex, but because of the emotional depth and density behind it.

There is a strong sense of cohesion throughout, especially in the melodic direction and the way the music and lyrics are crafted. That speaks highly of the band’s identity and vision. At the same time, that same cohesion can work against it, as the album at times feels like one long continuous piece, making it harder for individual moments to truly stand out.

Tracks like “Complicated�, “Redshift�, and “Noir� carry that balance between electronic textures and alternative heaviness, while songs like “Ebb and Flow� and “Burst� highlight the band’s strength in restraint and atmosphere.

Love Andersson delivers with subtlety and control, and the electronic nuances across the record add a modern and interesting layer. Still, some of those details and vocal moments get slightly lost in the overall consistency of the album.

This is far from a mediocre release. It is cohesive, emotionally rich, and well executed. But it also lacks those punchy, wow moments that create a lasting hook and elevate it into a must-return listen.
