Lamb of God: Into Oblivion

It’s crazy for me to think of Lamb of God as a veteran band, but here we are. The band have now been around for over a quarter of a century and have just released Into Oblivion, their 10th Studio album.

Like all bands that carve out long careers, Lamb of God have a pretty identifiable sound at this point. My initial impression of Into Oblivion is that is sounds very much like Lamb of God doing their thing. The mixture of percussive and groovy guitar riffing, super tight rhythm section, and Randy Blythe’s identifiable harsh vocals is a sound that that they have truly made their own.

I haven’t followed the band close enough over the last decade to really have an opinion on whether this album is a return to form or a continuation of what they have been doing with recent albums, but there’s no doubt it’s a good album. The riffing is tight and memorable, and Randy is spitting pure fire. I don’t typically pay a lot of attention to lyrics but with this album it’s clear that Blythe has a lot to get off his chest - he’s pushing back on what he is seeing in the world today - “Things are acceptable now that would’ve horrified people just 20 years ago.”

My Favourite tracks are the opener and title track "Into Oblivion", the more mellow change up "El Vacio", and the hard hitting stomper "Blunt Force Blues".

Into Oblivion is a strong release that die hard fans of the band will really enjoy. If this band hasn’t been your thing, I very much doubt they’ll change your opinion with Into Oblivion. As cliché as it sounds, this album does confirm that Lamb of God are not winding down or losing their edge towards the back end of their career. They’re maintaining the hallmarks of their sound and in doing so dishing up another solid album of head-nodding, heavy hitters.
