Trafic Jam: The Joke Is Over

Trafic Jam is a relatively new band with one album under their belts, their 2024 release titled The Joke Is Over. Their music is deliberately rooted in the ‘70s, a decidedly bluesy hard rock vibe emanates from these ten tracks.

The hooks hit immediately with the super catchy ACDC inspired hard rocker “Show Me� with inspired guitar and keyboard solos and strong vocals. Next is “Leave This All Behind�, another riff heavy hard driving tune with gritty vocals and melodic keyboards, especially organ, and a scorching guitar solo. This one will be perfect for summer highway driving. Deep Purple is certainly an influence in the slower burning “Hey Ian� and in “I Turned Off The Stars� a sweet acoustic guitar arpeggio and lovely vocals, both lead and backing, slows it down with a pretty and emotive ballad. The guitarist shows off his impressive acoustic chops throughout. I hear a bit of Queensryche here, circa the Empire album. “The World Is Sharing� brings another fine hook with its bluesy guitar and Purple inspired organ play.

Does Trafic Jam offer anything new here? Not really, and I would argue that is exactly the band’s intent. What they do deliver is a melodic, riff driven album with excellent melodies and fine playing all around. Those interested in ‘70s and/or early ‘80s hard rock in a Deep Purple/ACDC vein should find plenty to enjoy with The Joke Is Over. I know I did!
