Ines: Eastern Dawning
Released a year after Hunting The Fox, Eastern Dawning finds Ines refining their sound rather than reinventing it. While still rooted in neo-progressive rock, this album leans slightly more toward warmth and accessibility, incorporating acoustic elements, subtle orchestration, and a gentler overall tone.
The album opens strongly with “Friends”, an immediate, emotional, and elegant melodic track. From there, Eastern Dawning unfolds at a measured pace, favoring atmosphere and cohesion over dramatic peaks. “Healing Waters” and “Winter” stand out as some of the album’s most memorable moments, with tasteful arrangements and a stronger sense of melodic resolution. The closing track “Eve of That Night” ties the album together with layered vocals and a reflective mood that encapsulates the record’s overall spirit.
As with its predecessor, Eastern Dawning exceeds the 60-minute mark, and while that length may test the listener’s focus, it also reinforces the album’s cinematic and immersive intentions. Musicianship remains solid throughout, with keyboards playing a central role in shaping the album’s identity.
Eastern Dawning may not be a dramatic departure from Hunting The Fox, and I find it a little bit stronger… representing a more polished and emotionally nuanced chapter in Ines’ catalog, particularly appealing to fans of melodic and atmospheric progressive rock… cheers!
