Mark Lettieri Group: Meets WDR Big Band at Studio 4

It’s impossible to listen to the latest release from Mark Lettieri Group and not smile from ear to ear. This amazing collaboration with the WDR Big Band brings the funk and the fun. The horns burst with energy thanks to Michael Abene's arrangements, which created perfect interplay with the band. The musicians and songs create a great energy, it practically jumps out of the speakers. The opening “Goonsquad� is loaded with groove, and I love the rhythm the band establishes during “Tidal Tale�. Bassist Wes Stephenson and drummer Jason “JT� Thomas lock in while Lettieri shows off some fine rhythm work, add in the B3 from Daniel Porter and those stabbing horn lines, you have a winner! “Extraspecial� slows things down with a soulful flavor, then “Naptime� gets back to business of rocking out. “Star Catchers� is my favorite track, I can’t get enough of this song. This music is meant to be cranked up, great riffing from Lettieri, while the horns pop with a fierce arrangement.

The CD has been in constant rotation since it arrived, and won’t be leaving my player anytime soon.
