Critical Pint: Thirst Of All
Here is another new band for me. Critical Pint hail from Chambéry, France and formed in 2017. The band plied its heavy rock sound in local bars, before graduating to music festivals, releasing an EP titled Just A Drop in 2018. In 2023 they released their debut album titled Thirst Of All, and a find one it is.
In the band are:
Alex Palmier (lead vocals, guitars)
Maxime Héraut (guitars, backing vocals)
Thibaut Mazuir (bass guitar, backing vocals)
Tom Depoorter (drums, backing vocals)
With:
Manon Werrner & Ann (additional backing vocals)
Yannick Barru (additional percussion)
The band’s influences are clearly in the classic heavy rock vein. Led Zeppelin, Rival Sons, and Blues Pills come to mind. The edgy guitar riffs, gritty vocals and steady rhythm section propels these songs through bluesy hard rock, yet the band inject softer parts as well, where there is plenty of space for the instruments to breathe.
“Temptation” rocks hard right out of the gate with its punk rock intensity and scorching guitar. The gritty vocals from Palmier are an excellent fit for the band’s fiery brand of hard rock. “Mojo’s Working” begins with a mid-tempo guitar riff that eases off once the vocals start. It’s clean heavy rock with bluesy inflections and stoner rock grit. I hear a bit of early Led Zeppelin in the fiery “Flying Away” complete with psych influences in the softer sections. “Brand New Day” is a catchy classic style rock tune with excellent vocals and huge chugging guitar riffs. The doom heavy riffs at the start of the hefty “Nameless Bastards” set the heaviness in motion leading into blistering guitar work and a great groove. The entire album bristles with an urgent intensity that is positively infectious and unrelenting and the production is excellent as well.
Thirst Of All a real cracker of an album with no weak tracks in the lot. That adds up to nearly forty-nine minutes of classic rock goodness.
An M&O Music release.
