Myth Of Logic: Pictures From A Previous Dream

A while back I reviewed Myth Of Logic’s Surrounded By Ghosts, the first in the Here & There Trilogy. Now it’s time for Part Two Pictures From A Previous Dream. Myth Of Logic is multi-instrumentalist Scott G. Davis and he plays everything himself. I noticed in the liner notes it read “NO A.I. WAS USED”. It reminded me of Queen’s ‘70s albums when they made it clear "No Synthesizers were used". It just goes to show how times have changed with the ever evolving technology of the day. Anyway, back to the album at hand.

Davis is an excellent musician, proving his worth on guitar and a wide range of keyboards and synths. He has a nice voice as well, very easy on the ears.

The album begins with “If”, a short and grandiose piece and just little melancholic. Davis shows his exemplary keyboard work in the symphonic prog of “Hypogeum”, veering from the ethereal to up-tempo full-fledged symphonic rock with some nice changes and all around classy musicianship. Some of the keyboard work has a definite ELP influence. Sweet acoustic guitar, very gentle and serene begins “All Our Yesterdays” brimming with majestic synths, pretty piano, and another great melody. Davis certainly has a knack for writing hook laden music, easily reeling in the listener. Ominous synths begin “Parallax Error” before more classic symphonic prog takes over with fabulous keyboards, again the ELP influence cannot be understated. “Schizophonia” starts with a lush bed of keys and synths with gentle vocals before intriguing twists and turns through varying tempos takes you on a stunning journey, all the while showcasing fantastic musicianship and fine melodies.

That’s half the album with the rest just as noteworthy. Another excellent disc from Myth Of Logic. Their following album will be making its way to my CD player soon!
