G.A.E.A.: A Frozen Moment In Time
Galactic Aliens Extermination Armada (G.A.E.A.) recently released their second album titled A Frozen Moment In Time.
This album is the brainchild of Giuseppe Nicolò aka ‘Buzz’, as an outlet to combine Progressive Metal, Death metal and soundtracks from video games and 1980s sci-fi films. A Frozen Moment In Time is GAEA’s second album, and features lyrical themes that revolve around the concept about the last humans searching for habitable planet due to the imminent explosion of the Earth.
Musically, the album is a mixed bag but does touch on a lot of the intended genres and styles " metal, prog, soundtrack style electronica sections all play a part across the release.
The production has a little bit of a DIY aesthetic, and is paired with some solid, but potentially unfocused or un-scrutinised songwriting. I get the impression that ‘Buzz’ wrote and recorded a lot of this himself in a home studio, and if that is the case, fair play to him. In some respects though this album gives off a vibe of a pre-production demo, more than a ready for release album (to my ears at least).
Overall, I respect this as a large and ambitious undertaking which has some strong moments, however on the whole this album doesn’t quite hit the mark for me.
