It seems I'm on a bit of a German power metal kick lately, but it doesn't help that so many of the more notable acts from this region have released new albums in 2025. Iron Savior joins the fray with their latest, and final release in their 'reforged' series, where they have re-recorded classic tracks from the early part of their career on Noise Records, recordings that they no longer have the rights to. So why not give them a fresh new spin with the current band and new recording technology? Reforged-Machine World is this latest set for Reigning Phoenix Music, and collects songs from albums such as Dark Assault, Condition Red, Battering Ram, Interlude, and Iron Savior. As someone who has never owned or heard the original albums on Noise (I jumped into this band a little later on), most of these I'm hearing for the first time, and I like what I hear. Piet Sielck's vocals are spot on throughout, as he's become of the most dependable singers in power metal that nobody gives credit to, and he, alongside Joachim 'Piesel' Kustner deliver the riff thunder all across stellar tracks such as "Eye of the World", "Dragons Rising", "Machine World", "Contortions of Time", "Never Say Die", and the majestic "Stand Against the King". This isn't change your life music, but if fist-pumping power metal with tons of attitude and gravitas is what you crave, you'll get more than your share here. "Touching the Rainbow" is truly glorious, and who would have ever thought to cover Judas Priest's classic "Starbreaker"? Yep, these guys.
So, until we get another album of all-new material from Iron Savior, this will be a great dip into the past for some, and a welcome set of fresh songs for someone like me who hadn't heard these songs back in the day.
