Grand Discovery’s 2021 album Proceed is one that really connected with me, their
intricacy combined with a heaving rocking approach is a home run. Guitarist Andre Nieri
is blazing on “Power Within”, and right by his side is keyboardist Panu-Pekka Rauhala
often following him note for note, and the ending is crushing. A complete change of
mood with the atmospheric “Dream Inside a Dream” is a softie, but a gorgeous one at
that! I love Nieri’s phrasing in his soloing over that bed of piano, strings and a little flute
thrown in. So, after that, why not go out with a monstrous metal riff, and as would
expect more incredible guitar and keyboard soloing. Reconnected is a terrific four
song EP from Grand Discovery, so if you haven’t checked them out, this would be a
great place to get your first taste.
