BEAT: Neon Heat Disease-Live in Los Angeles
What started as my most anticipated concert of 2024 became my favorite show of the year. When the formation of BEAT was announced, I remember thinking Steve Vai is going to nail this, and he was the perfect choice. I never saw the 80’s version of King Crimson, but after seeing BEAT, I can say I was blown away. Steve Vai was such a presence on stage, and he brought his own flavor to the songs while staying true to the spirit of the songs. Belew was out front leading the proceedings and grinning from ear to ear, this was a confident band who knew they were tapping into some special music.
I bought the 2 CD/1 Blue Ray edition, and it was great to relive that night. Favorites for me are “Neal and Jack and Me”, and on CD 2 when you hit the Discipline run of “Frame by Frame”, “Matte Kudasai” and “Elephant Talk”, it just doesn’t get any better. I hope these guys think about making music as a band, but if not, we have this gift of CD and video to revisit any time we want. A wonderful tribute to an amazing era of one of the most creative bands in Progressive rock, this is a must own.
