Eelco Van Zanten: Eel Fusionkasteel

A lively and spirited fusion romp that focuses on composition and songcraft, but with chops galore. The music is energetic and dare I say has a happy vibe. This is an album where my enjoyment has grown with every listen, I’m continually drawn back for more. After the intro, “Trapeze� is the perfect transition to open the doors for Van Zanten and his band. “Dude� features exciting guitar/keyboard tradeoffs, but the track that really seals the deal is “Gezellig�, which features some amazing soloing, but is also a solid and memorable song, that’s the combination we all seek, A short 3:21 minute track that has it all, the keys and guitar are on fire, and the tempo changes add a nice touch before the band kicks into high gear. Another favorite of mine on the album, “Healing� offers up dazzling lead guitar work, but I’m still drawn to the band dynamic and song. A powerful rhythm section is the icing on the cake. These guys prove that great songwriting and chops can work together in harmony. Every track offers both of these qualities, so I suggest you take this one for a spin, highly recommended.
