Krysaor: Foreward

Melodic symphonic metal band Krysaor hail from France and have been around for a number of years. Vocalist Gus Monsanto (Human Fortress, ex-Adagio) joined the band in time for their 2023 release titled Foreward.

The album firmly sits in the melodic metal genre with symphonic and progressive embellishments aplenty, the keyboards and orchestrations used to great effect as are the excellent guitar riffs and solos, prevalent on all seven tracks. Another plus are Monsanto’s vocals as he can belt it out with the best of them, his voice never straining when hitting the notes.

The album opening “Celestial Sanctuary� is a dramatic and cinematic slice of melodic metal complete with neo-classical riffage, classy orchestrations, and robust yet catchy lead vocals. An excellent track that had me hooked on first listen. A tasty galloping guitar highlights the catchy “Abyss Of Oblivion�. Guitarist Christophe Laurent rips up the fret board with aplomb. The band mix heavy and lighter moments in the riveting “By Your Side�, the clean production highlighting the band’s detailed musicianship. “The Disciple� has to be one of the catchiest tracks here, the vocals being a major earworm.

That’s the first four tracks, the remaining three are just as good. Krysaor has been another nice surprise, warranting an excellent four stars!
