Ambient Den: Ambient Den

Ambient Den marks the ensemble debut of Ben Craven, Tim Bennetts and Dean Povey. This cinematic concept record takes us on a compelling odyssey through space and sound, following humanity’s search for a new home among the stars and culminating in the act of terraforming a distant world.

From the opening moments, there is no mistaking the lineage. This album feels like an ode to Gilmour-era Pink Floyd, floating somewhere between A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell. But that does not diminish the originality here. Ambient Den twists those influences until they become something unmistakably their own. What they build is an expansive prog rock journey, rich in atmosphere yet focused and melodic.

Ben Craven’s guitar is melodic and elegant, moving easily between intimacy and grandeur. Tim Bennetts’ piano and keyboards create sweeping soundscapes that capture the cosmic setting. Dean Povey’s drumming recalls Nick Mason’s understated yet essential style, giving the music a steady pulse.

"For All Mankind" and "Earthrise" stand out as instant classics, striking the balance between emotional melody and immersive atmosphere. "Provenance", an instrumental placed between them, acts as a beautiful bridge where guitar and keys meet to paint vivid and dreamlike textures."Terraforming" is the album’s centerpiece, a sixteen-minute instrumental epic that unfolds without the need for a single vocal. Acoustic and electric instruments tell the story on their own, guitars and keyboards soaring together to deliver that unmistakable Pink Floyd experience. Hints of the darker corners of Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall appear here, yet the sound remains fresh and hypnotic, especially through Craven’s guitar work.

The closing track, "Future History Pt. 2", surprises with a groovy rhythm that recalls "Money", mixed with hopeful lyrics and flashes of power pop reminiscent of Toto. It is an unusual mix, but it works perfectly, giving the album a sense of mission accomplished, humanity saved, journey complete.

Ambient Den is a debut that pays tribute to the past while carving out a path of its own. For those who love Floyd’s melodic and atmospheric side, this is an album that feels both familiar and brand new… cheers!
