Datadyr: This We Know

The Norwegian outfits third release, This We Know, is a blending of styles that offers the listener variety. From the loose and frenetic title track featuring screaming horns and ripping guitar, to the softer atmospheric guitar of “Dallas Alice� that develops with acoustic bass and wonderful guitar soloing. The song intensifies, adding grit and a bit of hair on the guitar tone, a clever shift in energy. A fiery union of guitar and horns flies out of the speakers for “South of Midnight�, a real workout that may provide insight into the band’s live performances. I would expect wild improvisations from these guys.

“Lotusdance� opens with a gorgeous guitar motif and a haunting cello for accompaniment, and interesting guitar lines throughout the short track. Their secret weapon is the acoustic bass which adds a rich tonal element giving the rhythm section an old school jazz vibe. “Point Blank� is the album's rocker, played with an abandon rarely captured on studio recordings. Easily my favorite track on the album, it’s getting plenty of spins.

Keep your eye on the Is it Jazz? Records label (I know I’ve said that before!), they have a roster of terrific talent, and while you’re at it, make sure to give Datadyr a listen!!
