Warlord: The Lost Archangel

Warlord's latest release, The Lost Archangel, is a testament to the band's enduring legacy and their ability to evolve while staying true to their epic metal roots. With vocalist Giles Lavery at the helm, the current lineup has breathed new life into the band's sound, blending their signature heavy, doomier sound with intricate musicianship.

The four new songs, including the title track "Lost Archangel", "Golgotha", "The Rainbow", and "Stygian Passage", are standout tracks that demonstrate the band's continued prowess in crafting complex, heavy soundscapes. The twin guitar work is exquisite, and the production is top-notch. These tracks are a great representation of the band's current sound, and they're sure to please fans of epic metal.

The re-recorded classics, including "Enemy Mind", "Night of the Fury", and the hauntingly beautiful "70,000 Sorrows", have been updated and polished, showcasing the band's growth and refinement over the years. These tracks are a great reminder of Warlord's legacy and demonstrate that the new lineup is dedicated to honoring the band's heritage.

The live tracks are a mixed bag, with the 2013 recordings from Athens featuring the late Billy Tsamis sounding a bit raw and dated. While they're still enjoyable, they're not as polished as the studio recordings. However, the 2024 European Tour recordings, featuring tracks like "Lucifer's Hammer", "Black Mass", and "Child of the Damned", sound much better and showcase the band's energy and stage presence.

Overall, The Lost Archangel is a great representation of Warlord's legacy and a testament to the band's continued creativity and passion. With their 2024 return album Deliver Us being well-received, it's clear that this lineup is hungry to craft and deliver high-quality epic metal. Fans of the band and the genre can look forward to more great music from Warlord in the future. For fans of epic metal, doom metal, and classic metal bands like Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, and Saint Vitus. A must-listen for Warlord fans and anyone looking for heavy, intricate, and well-crafted metal... cheers!
