Nightstalker: Return From the Point of No Return

From Athens, Greece, Return From the Point of No Return is the band's 9th release since the early '90s. They are comprised of:

Vox: Argy
Bass: Andreas Lagios
Guitars: Tolis Motsios
Drums: Dinos Roulos

"Dust" opens, a trippy, Monster Magnet meets early Black Sabbath thumper, loaded with psychedelic overtones and heavy riffs. Argy sounds a little like a young Ozzy here, and, mostly through the rest of the album. Next up is "Heavy Trippin' ", another groovy, heavy psych number, big fat riffs and scorching wah-wah guitar solos, and memorable vocal lines. Really digging this song! This is followed by "Uncut", and you can't help but fall in love with the opening drum rumbles and fat bass lines, which give way to crushing guitar riffs...this is one heavy mother, and another favorite here on the album. Has "Supernaut" vibes to my ears, and could have been a leftover from Vol. 4 from Sabbath. Lots of scorching wah-wah solos here too, which is always a plus in my book.

"Return From the Point of No Return", the title track, offers up plenty of effects on Argy's vocals, and the guitar is drenched in fuzz, the drums are pounding...another crushing track, so psychedelic and heavy. "Shipwrecked Powder Monkey" follows, and don't be fooled by the lilting guitar chords that open the song, as it quickly morphs into a doomy, sludgy, stonery, psychedelic masher. This is like "Planet Caravan" on steroids, awesome song. The closing guitar solo is so cool. That's followed by "Shallow Grave", which is like a cross between classic Alice in Chains and psychedelic Black Sabbath...another song with trippy atmosphere and then booming doom. For a slice of late '60s/early '70s styled heavy groove rock, check out "Falling Inside". This one has a Grand Funk Railroad feel to me, easily the most upbeat and accessible track here, quite bluesy and garage rock sounding, totally dig it. More scorching wah-wah guitar solos for an added bonus! The closing number is "Flyin' Mode", and the longest at just over 7 minutes. Killer fuzz-laden riffage, big pummeling drums, in fact, the drums take center stage around the mid-section and Roulos is doing all sorts of wild stuff behind Mostsios' frantic guitar solo. Kind of a doomy jam track, and a cool way to end the album.

This is a good one, folks. I've only ever heard their previous album Great Hallucinations, which is great, but this one might be even better.
