TAUK: Equalizer

TAUK is a four-piece instrumental rock band from Oyster Bay New York, and as I anxiously await their new album Somewhere Between Here and There, I felt this is a good time to alert the SoT crowd about this excellent band. Often lumped in with the jam band scene as they’ve toured with Umphrey’s McGee, STS9, and others, to my ears come they are closer to progressive rock. That being said, I do hear where many of these tracks could open up into longer jams. Regardless of how you classify them, this band is hot.

Guitarist Matt Jalbert and Keyboardist AC Carter lead the way. The opener “ Melvin’s Mind� is the perfect introduction if you’ve never heard TAUK. High energy, rocking with guitars and keyboards trading leads, and a rhythm section that drives the music. “Traverse� gets spacey in spots, but manages to maintain that energy, and you’ll find that throughout the album. “Come on Now� shows the band's tight intricate playing, soloing prowess, and a blending of influences. I love the tunefulness of their music, check out “Sound the Alarm�, the songs always have interesting twists.

TAUK has a lot to offer musically, and they align well with the music covered on Sea of Tranquility. If you haven’t heard TAUK, now is the time to jump in!
