Vario Chroma: Infinite Canvas

Vario Chroma's debut album Infinite Canvas is a masterful blend of progressive and heavy metal, proudly wearing their influences on their sleeves. The likes of Opeth, Dream Theater, TesseracT, Gojira, Meshuggah, and Sepultura are all evident in the band's sound, but what's striking is the similarity to Vanden Plas, particularly in the clean vocals, tonality, and some melodies.

The album is a slow burner, with the quality and intensity building up throughout the tracks. It isn't until the well-crafted "Sandstorm" that the album truly reaches its peak. The harsh growling vocals are present but never overwhelming, adding depth to the music without dominating it.

The guitar work is both intense and emotional, showcasing the band's technical prowess. As the album progresses, tracks like "The Caravan" showcase the band's ability to craft dramatic buildups and cathartic finales. "Purge" is a fast-paced song that blends progressive metal with elements of Opeth and Dream Theater, while the title track "Infinite Canvas" is a sprawling 9-minute epic that features melodic and atmospheric elements, highlighting the band's range and ambition.

Given that Infinite Canvas is their first full-length studio output over a decade after their debut EP "Panorama", it's impressive to see how well the band has developed their sound. With their technical chops and atmospheric soundscapes, Vario Chroma has all the ingredients to succeed within their genre. One can only hope that it won't take them another decade to release a follow-up to Infinite Canvas. For now, this debut stands as a testament to the band's potential and a promising start to their discography... cheers!
