Inglorious: V

Inglorious' fifth studio album, V, is a mixed bag that showcases the band's versatility and skill, but ultimately falls short of being a cohesive masterpiece. While the great songs on this record are truly exceptional, the rest of the material feels somewhat standard and opaque.

One notable departure from their previous work is the prominent grunge influence that permeates much of the album. This shift in sound is a slight detour from the classic rock roots that fans of We Will Ride might expect. However, when Inglorious hits the mark, they really hit it hard. The standout songs, such as "Eat You Alive", "Devil Inside", "In Your Eyes", "Silent", and the magnificent closer "Power of Truth", demonstrate the band's ability to craft memorable, hook-laden anthems that linger long after the music fades. These tracks are elevated by progressive rock nuances that add a layer of complexity and depth, making them truly great.

Nathan James' warm, soulful vocals continue to impress, and Henry Rogers' drumming is a force to be reckoned with, elevating tracks to new heights. The keyboards, when present, add a welcome depth to the sound, while the guitars craft memorable riffs and solos that showcase the band's musicianship. "Eat You Alive" is a potent song that sets the tone for the album's high-energy tracks, while "Devil Inside" showcases Nathan James' vocal range and emotional delivery. "In Your Eyes" is a melodic gem with a catchy chorus, and "Silent" is a moody, atmospheric track that resonates deeply. The album's closer, "Power of Truth", is a masterful track that features a soaring acoustic section and powerful instrumentation, leaving a lasting impression.

If V were condensed into an EP featuring only the standout tracks, it would be an excellent representation of Inglorious' capabilities. As it stands, the album feels like a mix of great and good, with some tracks feeling like filler. Nonetheless, fans of classic rock and hard rock will find plenty to appreciate in Inglorious' latest effort... cheers!
