Jizue: Mer

Talk about coming out guns blazing, “Rex� is a ripping thrill ride that could qualify for a James Bond theme. A great start, love that acoustic piano, and the band is firing on all cylinders. Marvelous musicianship and energy, if this track doesn’t do it for you, I’m not sure what will. So, where do things go after they rip your head off? The tables get turned pretty quickly as “Ri:ng� is a melodic keyboard driven track, but the melody here is going to be difficult for you to shake. I am blown away with the piano playing, that sound is so powerful and works perfectly. What really catches my ear throughout is the intricate interplay, and how all the instrumentation seamlessly blends together. You know what you are hearing is complicated, but the end-result sounds rich, melodic, and effortless.

The band's strength lies in the songwriting. These songs have multiple complex parts going on and yet never sound forced or contrived, everything falls into place. This is not always what I go for, as I usually want my guitars loud, and upfront. But, the writing and utilization of the instruments works so well. “Thoth� is the other monster cut on Mer, I keep playing this one over and over. If you love the pure tone of the piano and great songs, that should be enough for you to grab Mer. The piano is the star of the show, and I promise you an enjoyable listen.
