Tenerini, Jonhatan: Noisy Shadows
Drummer/Composer Jonhatan Tenerini has released an album titled after his project Noisy Shadows which also released an album back in May. I am definitely drawn to the heavier songs like the title track, and “Barbero” has good punch, but comes off a bit too polished. You get a good mix of guitar and keyboards throughout, and as you’d expect, Tenerini is very present in the mix. “End of the Line” starts with a cool synth line, and a good heavy riff that begs for a ripping guitar solo, but fails to deliver one, a missed opportunity if you ask me. For me, they saved the best for last as “4P.I.E.” is the hidden gem. Guitarist Francesco Gracci displays some searing guitar work and the band is at their fiery best. I want more of what I am hearing, but this is the end of the thirty-eight minute journey.
Overall, you get excellent musicianship, and Tenerini is a powerful drummer. Noisy Shadows has stellar moments, but for some reason it feels like it falls a bit short. After hearing an album once or twice, there should be something that tells me it is really something special. Unfortunately, I don’t think there are enough of them to draw me back for continued listens.
