Drage, Andre: Wolves

Norway continues to knock it out of the park this year, and low and behold my first 5 star review; Andre Drage’s Wolves. I believe the Bandcamp page provides the perfect description, “a fusion record inspired by Mahavishnu Orchestra, Soft Machine, and King Crimson, as well as newer heavy metal and jazz-rock from around the world.” Here is what I can tell you; this is a high energy, intense listen that grabbed me immediately. The impactful opener “Potent Elixirs” clearly defines the road you will travel over the albums 38 minutes. “Tigerboy” delivers that glorious Rhodes keyboard sound, and “Vind in their Sails” offers up a raging violin. Honestly, the rating should tell you all you need to know, but make sure to give this a full listen, as the closer “Brainsoup” is the band's tour de force, this is as powerful as it gets folks! This is definitely up for album of the year
