Vulfpeck spin-off band The Fearless Flyers are back with V, a collection of tight intricate compositions packed with groove and funk flavor. Guitarists Cory Wong and Mark Lettieri (Snarky Puppy) create the melodies that stick with you, no easy task for instrumental music. Bassist Joe Dart and drummer Nate Smith are so solid, listen to how locked in they are during “Exotic”. They continue to impress throughout the disc, so solid. Wong’s chukka-chukka right-hand rhythms weave perfectly through the song as Lettieri adds the cherry on top with his subtle yet perfect melody/lead lines. “SKOM” has it all, my favorite track in this collection, this seems to be the one where the guys get to step out a little bit and let it all hang out. This music is fun and uplifting, there is a great spirit here, and I challenge you to sit still during any of these tracks, it’s impossible. I love the Hendrix flair in the closing “Anaheim”, so good. This is good time music to be enjoyed, this will be a contender for my summer soundtrack, great stuff, check them out.
