Wooden Lungs is the second release from stoner/doom act Yung Druid, a band that features SoT's very own Chris Reid on guitars alongside Jack Oliver (vocals, organ), Magnus Reid (drums, synths), and Tom Reid (bass). Basically a two-song EP, Wooden Lungs kicks off with the 11-minute title track, a slow, ponderous, and ultimately quite heavy affair that brings to mind some of the classic work of the band Sleep with its mountains of riffs and hazy vocals. The nearly as lengthy "Space Cowboy" also delivers on the heavy riffage, though there's a bit of a psychedelic edge to this one, driven home even more by Oliver's haunting vocal delivery. Originally a UK-based act, the members of Yung Druid are now living in Spain, Australia, and New Zealand, so I'm sure that's made putting together new music slightly more challenging, though in this digital age, anything is possible. Here's hoping for more music along the lines of these two lumbering behemoths.
