Technically, The Raging Project is French songwriter, vocalist, keyboardist and producer Ivan Jacquin. But he recruited a long list of musicians and singers to help create Future Days -- a sweeping concept album of sorts in which each song is intended to be an introspective journey through the eyes of traveling spirits all over the globe. Its overarching theme: Does the human race deserve to be saved from mad power and never-ending technology? Or should it be allowed to falter and fail?
Heady stuff, with music to match. This is modern and aggressive prog-metal with hints of industrial and electronic music, delivered by talented French artists -- plus Derek Sherinian(!) on keyboards and theremin for the album’s longest track, the spacey “On Earth.”
If the name “The Raging Project” sounds at least vaguely familiar, that’s because a previous incarnation -- in the late 2000s with Jacquin, one other musician and a female vocalist -- generated some buzz in Europe after releasing a self-titled five-song EP. All of those songs have been reimagined for Future Days, and join five other songs and two bonus tracks, to make the revival of The Raging Project complete.
