Bobbie Dazzle: Fandabidozi

Never judge a book by its cover! That's the lesson I learned after diving into Bobbie Dazzle's Fandabidozi. I never expected this album to be this solid, this heavy, this catchy, this infectious… this good! From the opening guitar notes in the great "Lightning Fantasy" all the way to the psychedelic final notes in "Flowers in Mars", Bobbie Dazzle delivers one of the best hard rock albums of 2024.

The album is a love letter to classic rock, taking the heaviness from iconic acts like Led Zeppelin and Rainbow, the unique guitar sound from bands like Thin Lizzy and Sweet, the punk edge from The Stooges, and the glittery glam from artists like Suzi Quatro and David Bowie. Modern influences from bands like The Darkness and Lucifer also shine through, but never as mere copycats. Instead, these influences blend seamlessly into Bobbie Dazzle's unique sound. At the heart of this album is the incredible talent of Slân Greenaway, backed by an extraordinary group of musicians. The guitar work, courtesy of guitarist Tadhg Bean-Bradley is simply magnificent and addictive as hell, serving up ear candy at its best. Drummer Eddy Geach is a chameleon, effortlessly handling psychedelia, punk, heavy rock, prog, and whatever else each song demands. And, as the cherry on top, Slân herself makes impressive flute cameos, crafting even more appealing and engaging moments. The rest of the band is comprised of bassist Leon Smith and keyboardist Chris Dando, who also provides some backing vocals.

Standout tracks abound, including the opener "Lightning Fantasy", the mesmerizing "Merry-go-Round", the Bowie-inspired "Magic of Music", the high-energy rocker "Antique Time Machine", the psychedelic "April Showers", the glamorous "Lady On Fire", and the obvious single "Back to the City". Each song is a testament to the band's versatility and skill. For fans of good old rock and glam who aren't afraid of a female-fronted band, Fandabidozi is a must-listen. It's a gratifying listen, guaranteed! So, do yourself a favor and give Bobbie Dazzle a spin. You won't regret it! Cheers!

Bobbie Dazzle: Fandabidozi
Posted by Simon Bray, SoT Staff Writer on 2025-08-01 15:49:16
My Score:

Solo album by the singer form Alanuh? Hmmm. I have a confession to make, namely that I hadn’t seen Pete’s YouTube review nor read Jose Antonio Marmol’s excellent review above before this album somewhat serendipitously made its way into my life. Confession number two " I have never heard of Alunah either. I did indeed ‘miss this gem in 2024’ but hey, better late than never eh?
Given that Ms Dazzle herself, Siân Greenaway has experienced more than her fair share of tragedy and wanted to bring some fun and light into her life and music, it’s no surprise that she took the name Bobbie Dazzle (hopefully a Cannon and Ball reference) and named the album Fandabidozi which must be a nod to swinging (in more ways than one) comedic ‘superstars’ the Krankies. These are an excellent start towards the funzies. Then the music begins…

The entirety of Fandabidozi is uplifting retro fun from beginning to end. Yes, much of the record harks back to glam icons such as Bowie, Bolan and I would definitely suggest ABBA but it’s a thoroughly modern endeavour as well. Opener “Lightning Fantasy” comes off as The Darkness with a female vocalist " this is assuredly a good thing. To my mind “Merry-Go-Round” has echoes of “Blue Collar Man” by Styx in some of the transitions but then a flute turns up to take a walk down a completely different avenue than you were expecting.

Therein lies the beauty of Fandabidozi; it keeps you on your toes. Heck, “Revolution” starts off like Status Quo before morphing into a gang vocal singalong and even a nod to (dare I say it?) Gary Glitter (sound wise, not the terrible excuse for a human being.) This song also appears to have keyboards by Dave Greenfield and rhythm akin to Adam Ant. If you feel like you need perking up, locate Fandabidozi as soon as you possibly can.

Bobbie Dazzle: Fandabidozi

My Score:

It took me about two songs into Fandabidozi to cast aside my disappointment that singer Siân Greenway had left UK heavy rockers Alunah for a sort of solo project. As 'Bobbie Dazzle', Greenway has taken on a sort of 'Ziggy Stardust' or 'Alice Cooper' alter-ego, and the end result is this rockin' and quite fun album for Rise Above Records. Part glam, part hard rock, but ultimately quite retro yet modern at the same time, Fandabidozi is an absolute blast, bringing to mind such classic acts as T-Rex, David Bowie, Sweet, Blondie, Go-Go's, Suzi Quatro, Styx, and Mott the Hoople. Can't miss tracks such as "Back to the City", "Revolution", "Merry-Go-Round", and "Lightning Fantasy" are just the tip of the iceberg here amongst a sea of high-energy party rockers and anthems. Siân's vocals are electric, and it's obvious that despite her successful work in Alunah, this stuff is probably more in her wheelhouse. She's got the look too, so couple that with great songs and a hell of a voice, I can surely see this Bobbie Dazzle project reaching a much wider audience.

If you missed out on this gem in 2024, don't waste another second and investigate this one ASAP. More please!
