Goya: Kathmandu

A four track instrumental EP of Post-Rock-Prog may not immediately sound like the most appealing prospect. However, hailing from Stoke On Trent, England, Goya look set to change that. Bringing classic influences such as Rush, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, and combining them with the technicality of Tool via an altogether Doomier outlook, this band are genuinely doing something different – even if it still sounds familiar.

It's a heady mix and when delivered with a real sense of verve and passion, one that allows "Ashoka" to illustrate an intoxicating blend. "Collider" is equally energy driven but with a more controlled edge, while "Venenatus" offers up some clever mood altering patterns, changing the EP's focus in the process. With the title track taking a left turn into shimmering atmospheres and enigmatic imagery that's somehow both brash and fragile, Goya look set to take their Kathmandu release and scale the heights.
