October Tide (not to be confused with October File, another good band) began as a side project by members of Katatonia. Over the years, the band has experienced several ups and downs, including lineup changes and a long hiatus. Fortunately, the band has been more or less stable lately and this album shows the guys in fine musical form. October Tide has always done well with its material, a nice blend of melodic death / doom metal. On this album, the melodic passages are especially solid. Check out "Nursed by the Cold" for some of the most expressive guitar passages. I also recommend "Coffins of November."
