Napalm Records aren't messing around in their praise of this one, "Naturbål ("Nature's Bonfire") is yet another groundbreaking Folk Metal record in the discography of the Swedish mastermind whose characteristic vocals and unique songs have left their mark on a whole genre. Folkloristic tunes merge with technical guitar riffs and multilayered melodies. Anthem-like refrains provide the finishing touches to this sweeping symbiosis." Somebody has clearly swallowed a dictionary and it is debateable as to how groundbreaking Naturbål is but it is certainly another fine addition to a catalogue which just gets better.
Vintersorg blend together elements of Folk Metal, Black Metal alongside death metal but with somewhat of a commercial sheen to the production – not that this is remotely commercial and mainstream – far from it. This is an album which is best listened to through headphones; firstly so that you can concentrate as there is a lot going on; clean female vocals, harsh masculine vocals, clean guitar lines, massive riffs. In fact the only drawback is a slightly crappy drum sound at times but that's just nitpicking especially as this album contains in "Urdarmåne" one of my favourite song openings of the year thus far.
