Vomitron is a one man band hailing from the land of the Red Soxs, Massachusetts. Peter Rutcho is the terrific musician and video game enthusiast behind the project. His idea of turning video game theme songs into metal is not a new one and even though he tries his best, this is not an album that will stand up to multiple plays unless you are a rabid gamer.
Even though Peter pulls off some dynamite guitar riffs throughout the album it is impossible to really get into his playing as the arrangements he uses often distracts from the metalness of the disc. The last song on the album is a prime example. "Castlevania" contains some virtuoso guitar work but also some synthesizer that sounds like it came off the original programing of the game. If there is one thing that is the most irksome about video games it is usually the soundtracks. To be fair about this song though he does add some spot on organ also.
This is pretty much the story with the whole disc. A fan of a particular game might really enjoy his treatment of the themes but as a disc of music this one is forgettable. If you really want to hear how this is done in the right way, pick up the latest from the band Powerglove. They really add the metal to it!!
